Sleep Apnea Quiz

What is sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by irregular breathing patterns while sleeping – including shallow breaths or even pauses in breathing for a few seconds or up to minute. These pauses in breathing are called apneas. It is also characterized by a reduction in blood oxygen levels. To restart breathing, the body jolts itself awake most often subconsciously which often results in a loud snore or snorting sound. Apnea events occur continuously throughout the night and prevent you from remaining in a deep sleep. The result is unhealthy, light sleeping which causes excessive daytime tiredness among a host of other afflictions which have been correlated to sleep deprivation. Sleep apnea is typically an ongoing issue and many remain undiagnosed.
